O, O, OVA It’s Magic!

18 year old Hannah Flather has a high pain threshold, or so she thought! That was until her periods began at the age of 14 years. Until that point she had sustained open heart surgery at the age of 5 requiring minimal pain killers and experienced numerous sports injuries with very little pain relief required.

Having been through all of this, nothing prepared her for the pain she would experience when her periods started. She tried everything from Paracetamol to heat pads and hot water bottles and even visited her GP who prescribed Ponstan, none of these seemed to work for her. On a repeat visit to the school nurse at her school St Augustine’s Priory for painkillers, the nurse suggested trying an Ova machine.

The Ova has been designed specifically to treat period pain It is discreet and easy-to-use, the machine clips easily onto a waist band with the special large pads lying flat against the body and covering the entire abdomen. It is small enough to keep in your handbag (a small zip pouch is provided) and you can wear it under your clothes.

“The nurse lent me a machine and told me how to apply the electrodes. It was magic! With the flick of a switch my pain was gone. I couldn’t believe that this little box could take away my pain completely when everything else had failed” said Hannah.

Clinical trials carried out using the Ova have identified that TENS is very effective at treating period pain and has no known side-effects; such as nausea and drowsiness commonly associated with analgesia commonly used to control period pain.

Hannah wears the Ova for the first two days of her period to combat the pain. Her peer group are aware that she is wearing the Ova and many of them have taken her advice and purchased one for themselves. “It’s a popular product throughout my peer group as it’s easier and more discreet than a hot water bottle and safer than pain killers. I would strongly recommend Ova to any one who suffers period pains. IT’S MAGIC!” she says.

Ova is available from MamaTENS for £28.49, including delivery. Visit the Mum & Baby Healthcare section for more information.
